Gutter Guards in Staten Island & New Jersey

Stop climbing the ladder twice a year. Stop paying someone else too. We install gutter guards that keep leaves, and debris out, and let every drop of water through, so your gutters do the job they're supposed to do.

Home Exteriors by The Men With Tools installs gutter guards across Staten Island, New York and throughout New Jersey, using our expert installers.

We install professional-grade gutter protection that keeps leaves, twigs, shingle grit, and debris out of your gutters while letting water flow freely through. Whether you're tired of cleaning the gutters yourself, watching debris pile up behind the fascia, or you're putting on a new roof and want to do it right while the crew is already on-site, we'll recommend the right guard for your trees, your roof, and your budget.

Why You Need Gutter Guards

Cleaning gutters is the worst home-maintenance job there is. It's dangerous (the leading cause of fall injuries in homeowners is a ladder against the gutter), it's expensive if you pay someone, and it never ends, you do it in spring, you do it again in fall, and you do it again after every storm. Gutter guards solve the problem once.

Clogs do more damage than people realize. When water can't move through the gutter, it does four things you don't want it to do:

  1. It overflows down your siding, rotting the fascia and staining the exterior.

  2. It pools at the foundation, seeping into the basement and undermining the slab over time.

  3. In winter, it freezes into ice dams, backing water up under the shingles and into the attic, one of the most expensive interior repairs there are.

  4. It rots the gutter itself, because debris stays wet against the aluminum 12 months a year.

The math is simple. A one-time gutter guard installation is dramatically cheaper than even one foundation repair, one ice-dam ceiling repair, or one trip to the ER off a ladder. The right guard pays for itself the first season.

Types of Gutter Guards We Install

Not every gutter guard works. Some bow under heavy snow. Some are sold by national companies’ door-to-door for triple what they're worth. Here's what we install and why:

Micro-Mesh Stainless Steel Guards

(our most-recommended option) a fine surgical-grade stainless mesh fused to a structural aluminum frame. Fine enough to block oak tassels, and even shingle granules; strong enough to walk on without deforming. The premium tier and the one that solves the problem long-term.

Reverse-Curve / Surface-Tension Covers

a solid hooded cover that uses water's natural surface tension to direct water in while leaves slide off. Effective in heavy-leaf yards; less ideal for fine debris.

Screen Guards

Properly sloped runs, secured to solid fascia, sealed at the corners, verified before we leave.

Foam Inserts

the cheapest, shortest-lifespan option. We generally don't recommend them and won't install them where they'll fail.

Our recommendation depends on what's above your roof. Lots of mature oaks? Different answer than a yard full of pines. Coastal salt exposure? Different answers than inland. At the free estimate, we look up, not just at the gutter, and we give you a straight recommendation, not a script.

Why Home Exteriors by The Men With Tools

Our Professional Installers

The same installers behind 10,000+ window and door installations across Staten Island and New Jersey. Background-checked, drug-tested, experienced. National 1-800 gutter-guard brands sub the work to whichever local crew bid lowest that week, we are the crew.

One Accountable Contractor For The Whole Exterior

Most homeowners end up juggling a roofer, a gutter guy, and a leaf-guard salesperson. Home Exteriors by The Men With Tools handles your roof, your gutters, and your guards as one connected system, so the flashing, the gutter line, and the guard all work together, and there's no finger-pointing if something fails.

Done Right, The First Time

Properly fastened to the gutter, sealed at the corners, pitched so water still moves where it's supposed to.

Our Process

  1. Free in-home estimate. We look at your gutters, your roof, the trees above the house, and what's getting into your gutters. We recommend the right guard for your situation.

  2. Straight-talk pricing. A clear written quote with the system we recommend and why. Financing is available if you want it.

  3. Installation by professionals. Most homes completed in a single day. We work clean, protect your landscaping, and take the old debris with us.

The Best Time To Add Gutter Guards

The single best time to install gutter guards is while a new roof is going on, or right after. The crew is already on the roof. The drip edge, flashing, and gutter line are freshly detailed. The roof is clean of granules and debris. Installing guards at that moment locks in everything that was just done, and you never have to think about your roofline again.

Already have a roof and just want guards? Just as welcome. We service homes across Staten Island and New Jersey for guards alone, and we'll inspect your existing gutters honestly, if they're sagging or undersized, we'll tell you, and we won't put new guards on gutters that need to be replaced. → Ask about bundling roof, gutter, and guard installation

FAQs

For most homeowners with trees anywhere near the house, yes. The cost of installation is almost always less than one ladder-fall ER visit, one foundation repair, or one ice-dam ceiling fix. The right guard, properly installed, pays for itself in the first season of avoided cleanings and avoided water damage.

A properly sized micro-mesh guard handles even severe downpours; the mesh and the gutter profile are engineered to move more water than typical roof runoff produces. Where guards fail in heavy rain, the issue is usually the gutter itself: too small for the roof area or improperly pitched. We size both at the estimate.

Properly installed gutter guards, the kind that fasten to the gutter, not to the shingles — do not affect a roof warranty. We never lift, drill into, or shim under shingles to attach a guard.

Yes — most properly installed gutters in good condition can accept guards. We inspect first. If your existing gutters are sagging, leaking, undersized, or pulling away from the fascia, we'll tell you straight up and recommend replacement. We won't put new guards on bad gutters.

The right guard eliminates the dangerous part — climbing a ladder to scoop out wet leaves and packed debris. A properly installed micro-mesh system may need an occasional brush-off of fine surface debris (visible from the ground), but you'll never clean inside the gutter again.
