Replacement Window Costs in Staten Island & New Jersey
There IS a Correct Price for High-Quality Replacement Windows. Here’s What It Is…
It’s true that you get what you pay for when it comes to replacement windows in Staten Island & New Jersey. But it’s also possible to pay TOO MUCH for top quality.
The reality is that some companies just plain inflate their prices. So though you’re paying a “premium” window price, you may not be necessarily getting a premium window.
With this in mind, let’s take a look at the different pricing categories (and what you get for your money) for replacement windows in Staten Island & New Jersey.

Note: On this page, we use the industry standard for comparing window prices – a white double hung window under 100 united inches (united inches = width + height) with PROFESSIONAL installation. Other styles, colors, and options (grids, for example) will cost more than the prices we’ve outlined below. Prices also vary based on material. The three most common window materials are vinyl, wood, and composite. Wood and composite are typically more expensive than vinyl.
$189 to $699: TOO LOW
$189 to $699:
This is the “too good to be true” price range for replacement windows. These are what industry insiders call “investment grade” (or “builder grade”) windows. In other words, windows for cheap rental properties. Not the kind of windows a discerning Staten Island & New Jersey homeowner would want.
These windows might LOOK okay. But don’t be fooled – they’re made with inferior parts and lack even the most basic energy-efficiency features. They’re a 1 out of 10 in every category that matters.
Typical cut-rate components of a low-quality vinyl window:
- Recycled vinyl that’s flimsy and has a bluish tint
- Very little weather stripping, which leads to high air infiltration and drafts
- Cheap hardware (like locks) backed by a meager 5- to 10-year parts warranty
- Glass that doesn’t contain argon gas or low-e coatings, thereby failing to meet ENERGY STAR requirements
- “Caulk and walk” installation that will break down shortly after replacement
In truth, the $189 window is actually a foot-in-the-door tactic. The window company advertises an insanely low price to get you to set the appointment. Once they’re in your home, they try to upsell you on “upgrades” that even the most average window should already have. By the time you’ve added all these “upgrades,” you end up spending five to seven times MORE than you were promised!
$1,200+: TOO HIGH
This price is what you’ll typically pay for composite or wood windows. Neither material comes close to a high-quality vinyl window’s energy rating, so proceed with caution if you’re deciding to buy windows in this price range.
Composite windows are made of “wood flour” (60% vinyl, 40% sawdust and glue). The corners of the frames and sashes can’t be welded like a vinyl window; the corners will open up over time and create gaps that lead to water and air infiltration. Only low-quality vinyl and composite are made with this outdated method, which is why we choose not to sell them. Composite windows also have bulky frames and sashes, which leaves less space for glass and light.

Wood windows also fall in this price range. There’s no question wood windows look beautiful. But that beauty comes at the cost of constant maintenance – wood must be painted, stained, and scraped on a regular basis. Wood windows also don’t have the same energy-saving capabilities of quality vinyl windows.
That said, even the highest quality, most energy efficient vinyl windows shouldn’t cost you $1,200 or more. It’s true that you’ll find triple-pane vinyl windows in this price range. But as we’ve outlined here, triple-pane windows in Staten Island & New Jersey are overkill. We’re in a moderate climate, so the “extra” efficiency you’ll experience will be insignificant. You’ll get the exact same results with high-quality double-pane windows… while spending 30-40% LESS.
