High Quality Installation
Few flooring contractors will do extensive custom installs, and there is a reason for that: they just don’t have the skill or experience to handle such complex jobs. The Men With Tools does. Our aim is to give you a custom installation to the highest industry standards.
If a custom floor installation sounds intriguing to you, take a look at some of your options below to see just how varied your choices are.
Decorative Hardwood Floors and Features
Borders - A decorative inlay of different colored wood usually assembled in a pattern around the perimeter of a room. Borders frame a room and provide a unique look.
Feature or Accent Strips - A contrasting strip of hardwood flooring used to highlight a specific area or feature in a room, such as a fireplace, seating area or staircase. Feature strips are often used to mark the threshold between rooms.
Medallions – A custom design or pattern of parquet flooring inlaid to act as a centerpiece or entryway feature.
Herringbone Patterns - Hardwood installed parquet style to create a herringbone pattern.
Custom Installation of Reclaimed Hardwood:
Most reclaimed hardwood comes from timbers and planking rescued from old barns, factories or warehouses. In some cases, the wood has even been salvaged from underwater locations.
When re purposed for use as flooring, reclaimed hardwood produces a truly unique result!
Custom Sub-Floor Systems:
Floating Subfloors: The typical floating subfloor system over a slab is two layers of at least 3 / 8-inch plywood. The second layer is laid at a 45-degree angle or perpendicular to the first layer and is fastened to the first layer on a 12-inch grid pattern.
Radiant Heating Systems:
Rapidly becoming a popular option, radiant heating systems are installed beneath the flooring and are designed to improve energy efficiency and keep floors at a comfortable temperature.
Wood has a natural tendency to react to both temperature and moisture, so installation over radiant heating has to be carefully planned.
When installing a wood floor over top of a radiant heat system, we go to great lengths to ensure that the new flooring material is properly acclimatized to the moisture content at the installation site. Moisture levels are carefully monitored throughout the installation process using state-of-the-art measuring equipment.
The custom services listed above are only a few of the possibilities.
You’re limited only by your imagination!
